On August 26, Gustavo Gimeno and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg release their second album on harmonia mundi featuring two of the major ballets of the early twentieth century: Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird (1910) and Apollon musagète (1928). While The Firebird – a figure from Russian folklore that symbolized rebirth, beauty and magic – is marked by rich colours, masterful instrumentation and the use of Russian folk songs, Apollo is a commitment to classical clarity, brightness and a graceful elegance. Between the shimmering world of Russian folk traditions and the Apollonian cosmos of Greek mythology, Gimeno showcases with this album the diverse genius of the Russian composer.
