From January 19th to 29th, Gustavo Gimeno will conduct Katie Mitchell’s acclaimed production of Jenůfa at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia. Inspired by Gabriela Preissová’s play „Jedi pastorkyňa“ („Her step-daughter“), Leoš Janáček’s opera addresses with stark realism the topics of social control, unwanted pregnancy and violence against women – themes that appeal to Katie Mitchell in her self-declared mission to bring more female perception and experience to the stage. Gustavo Gimeno revives her gripping 2018 production with a cast that includes Elena Zaremba, Brandon Jovanovich, Norman Reinhardt, Petra Lang, Corinne Winters and Sam Carl.
