On April 14, Gustavo Gimeno and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg release their third album on harmonia mundi featuring early works by Giacomo Puccini. Centerpiece is his Messa di Gloria, which Gimeno already performed last year with great success in Luxemburg, Barcelona und Paris, with Charles Castronovo, Ludovic Tézier und der Orfeó Català as his musical partners – the same cast as in the recording.
The Mass is complemented by the Capriccio sinfonico – Puccini’s last symphonic work – as well as the Scherzo per archi and Crisantemi, which Puccini wrote for string quartet but which were arranged for string orchestra for this recording. With this album, Gustavo Gimeno traces Puccini’s early musical development and at the same time shows his underestimated diversity.
