A tour in Spain and an opera programme with world renowned bass baritone Bryn Terfel opened the season for Gustavo and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg in a rather spectacular way – and for the next weeks, Gustavo returns to his orchestra for exciting projects.

From 23-27 October, the OPL will swap their philharmonic home for the Grand Théâtre de Ville de Luxembourg for three performances of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” in the staging of Jean-François Sivadier. Premiered at this year’s Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the cast includes Andrè Schuen in the title role and Federica Lombardi as Donna Anna.

In early November, two of the most eminent pianists return to Luxembourg for concerts with Gustavo and the OPL: On 6 November, Daniel Barenboim appears as soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 5, whereas Krystian Zimerman performs in Leonard Bernstein’s Symphony no. 2, “The Age of Anxiety”, on 24 November as well as on 26 November for a guest performance in Cologne.

The beginning of December eventually sees Gustav Mahler’s opulent Symphony no. 2 on the stands, featuring soloists Miah Persson and Anna Larsson. The piece is presented at home in Luxembourg as well as on tour in Antwerp.
